About
I was born and raised in Coldwater, Ohio, and I am a long time sewist (a relatively new term, combining the words "sew" and "artist"), and quilter with an excellent eye for color! My sewing journey began in junior high by creating clothing for myself and friends. The love and urge for creating things out of fabric continued through high school and college where I took weaving, paper and art classes. My background in interior design allowed me to continue working with fabrics, from pillow to drapery to upholstery fabrics. After living in Florida and New York, I returned to Coldwater in 1998. I have been married to my husband, Bill, for 33 years, and we have two children, Abigail and Adam.
I have been sewing since age 12 and my quilt making began about eighteen years ago. Here I learned traditional blocks and methods, and after making numerous bed quilts and blankets, my interest turned to art quilts. It’s only been in recent years that I began creating them. My quilts are crafted using both traditional piecing and the technique of raw edge fused appliqué. Using nature as inspiration, I create my art quilts from many layers of cloth- painted, hand-dyed or purchased, cut into pieces and reassembled; combining threads and fabrics with many colors and patterns to form beautiful, cohesive images. I have been sewing most of my life, and the passion for it never dies. I am constantly learning new techniques to advance my art quilts, and inspiration is always close at hand, whether in a book, garden, or backyard! Thank you for visiting my website. Marilyn |
